Common signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease
What is
Alzheimer's disease?
Basically, Alzheimer's is a severe degenerative condition that develops in the
brain. The end result is a loss of the person's personality as well as his
mental and physical abilities. The disease starts in the cerebral cortex.
Unfortunately, Alzheimer's is a common form of dementia.
Alzheimer's stages
Alzheimer's disease is said to be a progressive illness. That means, the
symptoms tend to worsen over time. There is a broad classification system called
the FAST system (Functional Assessment Staging) that defines seven distinct
stages of the disease. Of course, the specific symptoms at each point in time
and their intensity may differ from one person to the next, so there is bound to
be considerable variation within this classification.
