Useful asthma types facts
Now, it is true that the overall treatment is the same for all types of asthma. However, the key to managing the disease is prevention. And that means, eliminating, reducing or otherwise managing your exposure to the trigger or cause. The cycle runs as follows. You are exposed to the trigger. Your body overreacts and inflames the cells of the bronchial passages and lungs. The muscles surrounding the bronchial cells contract. The combined effect is to drastically cut down air supply to the lungs. Allergy induced asthma is probably the most common of all types. In recent decades, there's been a dramatic increase in the number of cases diagnosed. This is partly due to doctors getting better at pinpointing the cause. But some doctors theorize that since children are not exposed to as many diseases as earlier, their immune systems don't have the opportunity to mature properly. Which is apparently a reason for the significant jump mentioned earlier. Incidentally, dust, pet hair, dust mites, cockroach parts, etc are some of the most common triggers for asthma. The second common asthma type is that induced by exercise. There are doctors who believe that this is a totally different kind of asthma. Some others believe that this is only a mild allergic reaction caused by higher-then-normal stress on the body. In any case, this type is set off by physical activity. Particularly when air quality is not good (pollen, dust, etc present in large quantities) or when the temperature is not optimal. The patient's physical condition also has a bearing on it. Once you know what type of asthma you suffer from, you can take steps to lessen both the frequency and severity of attacks. Here are some suggestions. If you have allergy induced asthma: * Obviously, avoid your specific asthma trigger as much as possible * Remove carpets and heavy draperies * Make sure you vacuum regularly using a canister type vacuum * Using pillowcases and covers for mattresses helps reduce the population of dust mites * Utilize HEPA air filters * Call in a pest control company to rid your home of cockroaches and other pests. If you suffer from exercise induced asthma: * Pre-exercise warm up helps cut down on the stress. In any case, this is a good thing to do. * Around fifteen minutes before working out, take a dose of your prescribed bronchodilator * Take care to draw breath in through the nose and exhale through the mouth. Use mild force to blow your breath out. This helps to make even more room for additional oxygen to come into your lungs. * Take breaks during exercise. It may be better to exercise in short busts rather than for a long stretch. As you can see, knowledge of asthma types is essential before you can take steps for effective asthma management.
