Useful natural remedies for asthma
(Did you know that the term 'asthma' was coined by the ancient Greeks? It means 'to pant' or to have short-drawn breath.) Unfortunately, despite it being around for 1000s of years, asthma is one of the fastest growing diseases of modern times. If you are a sufferer of any kind of asthmatic symptoms, you may need to undergo allergen tests to determine exactly what you are allergic to that causes your illness. Of course, asthma can also be triggered by strong emotional reactions, stress or by things like air pollution. There are a number of alternative therapies for asthma that have been around for long. They have proved effective for some patients. Please keep in mind that you should not disregard the advice of a medical professional or discontinue prescribed medicines without their advice just because you decide to try out these home remedies. * Honey is said to reduce asthma attacks and has been used effectively for a long time. A jar of honey is held under the asthmatic's nose. Its aroma is said to make breathing easier for sometime. The patient can also eat honey mixed with water or milk. Tradition says that honey helps to remove the mucous in the airways and so helps to control asthma. * Some people consider turmeric to be an excellent natural remedy. One teaspoon of turmeric powder is mixed well in one glass of milk and taken twice daily. * It is thought that garlic can help contain an asthma attack if it is used in the initial stages of the attack. Garlic is to be boiled in milk and consumed. Rubbing mustard oil mixed with camphor onto the patient's chest is supposed to loosen the phlegm and make breathing easier. The mustard oil is not to be consumed -- it should only be applied to the asthma patient's chest. Another option is to take ginger tea. Mix ginger tea with crushed garlic and take every morning and night (the tea is to be consumed before it cools). This has been used with good effect by many asthmatics. As you can see, there are many possible natural remedies for asthma. Once again, don't forget to continue with the medications prescribed by your doctor. Any change should be done only under the advice and supervision of a medical professional.
