Getting to know Parkinson's symptoms
The
symptoms of Parkinson's disease
One of the keys to successful treatment of Parkinson's disease is early
detection. Unfortunately, in the vast majority of cases, the disease is far
advanced before it is diagnosed. That is a key reason why it is important to
know the symptoms of this debilitating neurological condition and to seek
competent medical advice early if any of these are present.
Parkinson's
disease
It is estimated that well over one million Americans are affected by Parkinson's
disease. The bad news about this illness is that it is a progressive condition.
Which means, it tends to get worse over a period of time. The symptoms of this
disease can vary quite considerably from one patient to the next. However, there
are several signs that are quite common among sufferers of all ages.
The 5 stages
of Parkinson's
Two researchers Hoehn and Yahr have defined five distinct stages for Parkinson's
disease. This provides a useful yardstick both to describe the illness and
symptoms at each stage and to fine tune the treatments required at each.
