Treatments for Parkinson's disease
Treating Parkinson's
Although there is no know cure for Parkinson's disease yet, certain kinds of
medication have proven useful on containing some of the symptoms. The role of
drugs is basically to restore quality of life rather than attempt a cure.
Medication also has undesirable side effects which the patient must cope with.
As the disease progresses, the need for medication tends to change as well.
Patients need to be monitored regularly to determine what would work best for
them at each stage.
Alternative medicine
Given that treating Parkinson's disease is basically a matter of alleviating
symptoms, alternative medicine has been helpful to some patients in dealing with
the condition. Alternative means have been used alongside conventional
treatments to enhance the effects of the latter and also to contain some of the
inevitable side effects of drug therapy. Although many specialists are skeptical
of using alternative remedies, several insurance companies are willing to pay
for them.
