What you should know about the symptoms of Parkinson's disease
That's very unfortunate, since late detection significantly decreases the chances of successful treatment. Obviously, having access to the right information about Parkinson's disease is critical. This illness is often difficult to diagnose. Why? Parkinson's shares many symptoms with other neurological illnesses. Nevertheless, certain combinations of symptoms tend to be strongly associated with the disease. Here are some of the signs. * Problems with bowel movements Constipation is a common problem because the gut loses easy communication with the relevant parts of the brain. * Eating difficulties The Parkinson's sufferer may have problems swallowing. There's also loss of appetite and he or she may try to get by on minimal food and water. They eat more only when encouraged to do so. * Problems with balance When you walk, you normally swing your arms and stride along. Parkinson's patients, however, find it difficult to move both arms and legs with the usual felicity. Since normal movement is impaired, physical balance becomes problematic. * Walking problems This is related to the above. Normal limb movement is impeded, so obviously, walking (especially for long distances) is a real challenge. As the disease advances, their walk degenerates into a typical shuffle, which is one of its classic symptoms. * Dementia Researchers are not certain that this is due to Parkinson's disease. Many opine that dementia often seen in Parkinson's sufferers may not have been brought on by the disease, but may instead be present irrespective of whether the person had Parkinson's or not. Of course, there are many people who have Parkinson's disease who do not suffer from dementia. * Depression Again, it is uncertain whether depression is due to Parkinson's or whether it is brought on just because the person realizes they are suffering from an incurable disease. Depression often does accompany this disease. In addition to the above, there are other symptoms associated with this disease. * Stooped posture * Lack of interest in sex * Disturbed sleep * Sudden panic attacks * Soft, monotonous speech * Becoming fatigued easily * Skin becoming oilier than earlier * Dizziness * Sharp decline in the sense of smell As you can see, there are a whole range of symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Paying attention to them can help in detecting the disease early and controlling it effectively.
